  • The Mission
    The mission of the FITMAN (Future Internet Technologies for MANufacturing industries) project is to provide the FI PPP Core Platform with 10 industry-led use case trials in the domains of Smart, Digital and Virtual Factories of the Future
    FITMAN Trials (4 conducted by Large Enterprises, 6 by SMEs) will test and assess the suitability, openness and flexibility of FI-WARE Generic Enablers while contributing to the STEEP (social-technological-economical-environmental-political) sustainability of EU Manufacturing Industries.
    The use case trials belong to several manufacturing sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, white goods, furniture, textile/clothing, LED lighting, plastic, construction, and manufacturing assets management.

FITMAN Architecture

This section describes technical FITMAN deliverables from two work packages. FITMAN WP1 concerns the baseline system, while FITMAN WP3 focuses on the design and development of the FITMAN experimentation sites. The first 9 sections represent outputs from the first six months of FITMAN, while the remaining the next 7 sections represent work from the subsequent months of FITMAN. The early deliverables reported upon from WP1 are: the use case scenarios and business requirements; the trials IT requirements; the FI-WARE Generic Enablers Selection; the Generic Enablers and their Use Cases in Manufacturing; the FITMAN Reference Architecture; the FI-PPP Capacity Building Analysis. The early deliverables reported upon from WP3 concern: current existing IT infrastructures; the FITMAN trials business cases; the trials competencies and capabilities gap analysis and open call specifications. The later deliverables from WP1 are: FITMAN Trials IT Requirements (2nd); FI-WARE Generic Enablers Selection for FITMAN (2nd); FI-WARE Platform Instantiation for FITMAN smart-digital-virtual (2nd); FI-PPP Capacity Building Analysis (2nd). The later deliverables from WP3 are FI-based FITMAN Specific Enablers; Enterprise and Data Interoperability Specific Enablers; Integrated FITMAN System.

The second section specifies various business models of relevance in the same context. This section describes the assessment of the FITMAN trials, the best practices and lessons learned drawn from FITMAN trial partners (including SMEs), about their experiences of the process of becoming involved in the FI-PPP. It also presents recommendations to the FI-PPP arising from the experiences in the FITMAN project.

FIWARE for Industry

In order to exploit the results of the FITMAN project and continue to support organisations in the use of FITMAN's assets, FITMAN has set up the FML, now branded as FIWARE for Industry, with support for operation at regional and EU level. The FML has been set up in agreement with I-VLab Board of Directors as a Community Group and received the final approval of the business plan and operations in September 2015.
